MTS, Motorola, Qualcomm to offer first 5G smartphone soon

MOSCOW, Jul 17 (PRIME) -- Major Russian mobile operator MTS together with U.S. giants Motorola and Qualcomm have tested the first smartphone supporting the frequencies allocated locally for 5G ahead of the upcoming sales, the operator said on Friday in a statement.

“The Motorola Edge+ smartphone, which will be offered for sale in the coming months in MTS stores, will be ready at the hardware and software levels to support work in the 5G millimeter range, including the 24.25–24.65 GHz bands allocated by the State Frequency Commission of Russia to create networks of public use and private technological 5G networks,” the operator said.

Motorola Edge+ is the first commercial smartphone running on the Qualcomm processor with support of the mmWave spectrum, given for 5G in Russia.

The device also supports other bands widely used in Europe, Asia, and the U.S.
